New research reveals that older Brits are experiencing a second wind in their 50s, rediscovering the feelings they had in their early 20s
The #ThisGranCan study, commissioned by Vauxhall to celebrate the launch of the all-new VIVA, surveyed 2,000 adults over 50. It found that this generation is less cautious than their 20-something counterparts, with almost a quarter confessing to using their savings to experience new adventures – like going to Glastonbury for the first time, booking a lads’ or girls’ holiday, or getting a tattoo. Celebrities that were seen as best representing this generation included Helen Mirren, Joanna Lumley and Richard Branson.
In comparison, when the Vauxhall VIVA first launched over 50 years ago, stars such as Alec Guinness and Fanny Cradock epitomised an over-50 age group with slightly more modest aspirations.
